Cornish Ketchup Company Named Winner of Crowdfunder UK’s Eden Project Live Crowdfunding Event

Nearly two weeks ago, Crowdfunder UK, hosted an online crowdfunding event at the Eden Project for three foodie start-ups. They each battled it out to gain support and funding from the crowd, which were both live audience and online viewers. And now, the winner of the event has been declared as Cornish Ketchup Company.

Cornish Ketchup Company 1According to its pitch, the Cornish Ketchup company was founded by two friends with a passion for great food. Real ketchup. Handmade in Cornwall. 100% natural ingredients. Kris Fleming and Chris Gordon, from Truro, founded the Cornish Ketchup Company with the aim of using local growers and manufacturers to give the traditional condiment a unique twist.

After months of hardwork, dedication, and successful partnership, the duo decided to finally launch their new ketchups in Cornwall and are now setting their sights on getting their products out to the rest of the region.

Gordon stated, “We wanted to prove that you don’t have to be ruthless to get on in business – you can source locally and do something charitable at the same time. We’ve been trading for over two months and have produced over 2,500 bottles so far for farm shops, restaurants, and hamper companies, so it’s a good start.”

Kris Fleming and Chris Gordon `During their time on Crowdfunder UK, the project surpassed its initial £500 goal and raised £1,230 from 162 backers in four days. Sharing his excitement about the “big win,” Gordon shared, “We’re really proud to have won the first Crowdfunder Live, and are hugely grateful for all our backers on the night.

Atlantic Kitchen took home second place and Snact finished in third. Managing director at Crowdfunder UK, Phil Geraghty noted, “This is the first of many live events we will be hosting. It was a real honor to broadcast our first live internet-streamed event from the heart of Cornwall at the Eden Project and to work with the incredible brands that are River Cottage, The Cornwall Food Foundation and Eden as sponsors.”
