Gillian Anderson believes the truth is still out there! While chatting with Bloomberg TV about her new book, A Vision of Fire, The X-Files beauty revealed that crowdfunding might help bring the show’s third film to the big screen.
Anderson, who appeared on the hit series from 1993 to 2002 as Agent Scully, stated, “David [Duchovny], I and Chris [Carter], our executive producer and creator, all are interested in coming together again in some format. We could crowdfund an X-Files movie. [Funding] is ultimately what’s keeping it from happening – other than Fox giving the go-ahead, which is not a small issue. There is discussion, things are percolating”
Before her comments with Bloomberg, Anderson hinted about the film while promoting the book during a Reddit AMA session. When asked about it, she didn’t say yes but she certainly didn’t say no. She wrote, “Uh… Uh… uh… Sorta kinda. Keep your ears to the ground.”
During a recent interview with Empire Magazine, the series creator Chris Carter discussed the possibility of a third movie, and shared,“It’s really up to Twentieth Century Fox, whether they have the will to do it. I think all of us are interesting in putting the band back together. I have an idea for it in my head.
“The colonization date has passed and that is something we wouldn’t ignore in that story. When they came to us and asked us to do the second movie, they told us the budget limitation and we knew we wouldn’t be able to do another mythology story.
“So we did something much smaller and more intimate- I call it a standalone movie. But if we were going to go forward, I would go back to something that would really connect more to the mythology and to the first movie.”
Duchovny, who co-starred as Agent Mulder, also noted that both he and Anderson both hope to reprise their roles in another film. “All the principals are on board. Gillian and I want to do it, so it’s really up to 20th Century Fox at this point.”
