The Oculus Rift is one of the most well known rewards crowdfunding campaigns ever. The VR headset that is a gamers dream raised over $2.4 million on Kickstarter as thousands backed the campaign. Oculus went on to raise many millions from VCs – only to be acquired by Facebook in a deal that valued the company at over $2 billion.
Well now Jamwix, a San Francisco film studio, has released the first feature film designed to work with an Oculus Rift headset. The film, Banshee Chapter, is a low budget horror film (of course).
Jamwix describes their art the best:
“Immerse yourself in Lovecraftian horror as never before possible. Banshee Chapter, the first ever feature film released in virtual reality… Oculus Rift owners will embark on a terrifying adventure into the fact and fiction of secret government drug experiments and sinister conspiracies. This film is presented in virtual reality format using Jamwix’s proprietary Chimera VR engine.”
It is available for free download (Mac OS Only) now at the OculusVR site. As of today over 1400 downloads have occurred. The first of many.
