Green Party Leader, Natalie Bennett, Embraces Crowdfunding to Galvanize Supporters in London

Following the recent Crowdfunder UK crowdfunding campaign, launched by the Green Party, encouraging MP candidates across the country to fund the fees they need to stand in their areas, Natalie Bennett has launched her own project on the UK’s largest rewards-based crowdfunding platform in order to appeal to supporters.

Bennett stated, “With just six months until the general election there is a #greensurge around the country with membership of the Green Party up 90% in 2014 alone. We have a huge opportunity for a great result in Holborn and St Pancras. To make sure that people know that the Greens are here, and what we stand for, we need funds – for leaflets, for calling cards, for poster boards, for letters to voters and more.

“As the election gets closer we need window posters and poster boards for gardens to make sure the strength of Green support is evident. We’re appealing for £3,000 to fund those materials – to make sure we can reach across the constituency.”

Phil Geraghty, MD of Crowdfunder noted,“It’s great to see Natalie Bennett, the leader of the Green Party using Crowdfunder to engage supporters to raise funds online. Crowdfunder is leading the way for digital innovation in the UK and it’s great to see how our platform is empowering communities across the UK to have a collective voice, creating real change in society.”

Tom Beckett, Fundraising and Operations Director at the Green Party, added,“The Green surge in membership and polling demonstrates that more and more people are interested in Green values and policies and are prepared to vote Green at the 2015 General Election.

“Working with Crowdfunder allows the Green Party, which, unlike other parties, does not receive large corporate donations, to raise the money necessary to stand more candidates than ever before and potentially boost our representation in Parliament next year.”

The Green Party promotes the policies of ecological sustainability, a fairer more stable economy and a more equal society. The organization believes in a higher standard of democracy and the accountability of politicians to the communities they serve. They also believe in social justice on a global level as well as in their own country.  Unlike other parties, the Green Party’s policy is developed and passed by the membership, not by the leadership. They believe that each individual voice needs to be heard and listened to. It is also growing more and more everyday.
