Barbara Corcoran Invests in Social Rewards, Equity Crowdfunding on Crowdfunder

Barbara CorcoranSocial Rewards, a company that offers a new distribution channel for film studios to market movie trailers, has partnered with 20 nationwide theater circuits in over 500 locations in 40 different states.  They have also partnered with 20th Century Fox to launch FoxRewards.com.  Social Rewards is also raising capital to help boost growth of the young company, and they were fortunate enough to capture a high profile investor.

Barbara Corcoran, a name synonymous with popular pitch show Shark Tank, has jumped in to back Social Rewards.  According to CEO and co-founder Joseph Morin,

“Having Shark Tank’s Barbara Corcoran as an investor was a huge vote of confidence from her team and subsequently helped us trend and close investors on Crowdfunder. Once we were trending, we received about an email a minute for the first few hours and were able to eventually raise $100,000 on Crowdfunder.”

Crowdfunder Social Rewards FundedApparently this is the first company that Corcoran has invested in via the Crowdfunder platform but this is a nice validation for Social Rewards and the equity crowdfunding process.

Corcoran proudly notes in her credentials that she received straight D’s in high school and college.  Of course that did not stop her from creating The Corcoran Group.  Her firm became a globally recognized real estate company specializing in top tier residential offerings in Manhattan and surrounding communities. She went on to sell the company for a respectable $66 million in 2011.

According to Crowdfunder, Social Rewards was in the process of raising $1 million in new funding.  The crowdfunding campaign recently successfully closed this funding round.
