Jolla’s Alternative to iPad Tablet Returns to Indiegogo With a New 64GB Version & Specs

Jolla 2

Last November, Crowdfund Insider shared details about a new alternative to the iPad known as Jolla Tablet’s Sailfish OS that surfaced on Indiegogo. The device is declared as an operating system that no one has ever experienced. It is independent and has been built the way it has.

Jolla 2The tablet’s features are:

  • Multitasking: Sailfish OS shows all the running apps conveniently in one single view. The user can control all apps directly from the multitasking view.
  • Super-Fast Interactions: The tablet works with the user’s natural hand movements through gestures. No pushing of tiny buttons is required.
  • All the Apps the User could Possible Dream Of: Sailfish OS has the capability to run Android apps.

During its run on Indiegogo, the Jolla raised over $1.8 million. Now, it has returned to Indiegogo, this time with a new 64GB version of the already popular tablet. During a recent update, the Jolla team shared, “We would also like to say thanks in helping us reach the stretch goal of $1.5M and enabling support for microSD cards up to 128GB. This perk generated a tremendous amount of discussion and at Jolla we are definitely listening.

Jolla 1“We’ve decided to move forward with an open source memory card solution. This enables you to use memory cards up to 128GB on your Jolla Tablet for back-ups and extra storage. Due to Microsoft’s licensing limitation, cards over 32GB, that are formatted in Jolla Tablet, will not be readable with Windows computers or devices that advertise microSDXC support (cameras/phones/tablets). We feel that this suits best with our community’s wishes and Jolla’s values.

“Other hardware news: Our amazing hardware team has managed to increase the battery size to 4450mAh (before 4300mAh). We can also confirm that the display is fully laminated, and that the tablet includes gyroscope and compass sensors. However, proximity sensor will not be included in the Jolla Tablet unlike previously mentioned.”

Also revealing progress on the November tablets, the team noted, “The Jolla Tablet development work is progressing really well, and we are on schedule to deliver! Reopening the Jolla Tablet Indiegogo campaing will not effect the communicated pricing or delivery for contributions made during Nov-Dec 2014.”
