On Thursday (January 29th), San Francisco-based Glow Headphones debuted its crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter. Seeking only $100,000, the new headphones quickly surpassed its initial and within four days raised nearly $270,000 from over 1,300 backers.

Glow 6According to its campaign’s website, Glow has been dubbed the world’s first laser headphones that pulse to the music. The headphones are designed to provide listeners with the clear and balanced audio response that they expect from a high-end audiophile product.

Not only known for their impressive sound, the headphones are designed to be comfortable and easy-to-user for everyday activities. The Glow team shared, “The ergonomic design of the asymmetric nozzle follows the natural contour of your ear, so the earbuds fit perfectly and securely. A negative profile recesses completely in the ear, providing comfort even when you’re laying down or sleeping.”

Features of the Glow Headphones include:

  • Remote Features
  • Heart-Rate Sensor
  • Laser Illuminated Cables

Glow 3During an interview with Engadget, creator of Glow and Google employee, Zi Wang stated, “Android never had a dedicated audio accessory. Close to 98% of audio accessories on the market done work properly with Android devices.”

The media outlet reports that Wang has worked closely with the Android and has noted that most accessories are mainly created for iOS, which means that these accessories are often featured as a mimic to the built-in clicker found on Apple earbuds. The click adjusts volume, answers phone calls, play or pause music, and takes photos. Despite being able to perform the same functions, Wang notes that the click doesn’t always lay well with Android.

In regards to why he and his team are using the crowdfunding giant to raise funds, Wang added, “Kickstarter for us is a market validation. We want to see if people will like it. What do people think? Are we on track?”

Kickstarter backers may purchase the Glow headphones for the price of $149 and each will be delivered in July 2015. The campaign is set to close on March 13th.
