The Pebble Smartwatch has hit another crowdfunding home-run. The first go of it knocked it out of the park back in back in 2012. At that time $10.2 million was raised for the very first Pebble setting a high bar for other tech crowdfunding campaigns. Now three years later Pebble is doing it once again. This time Pebble went hyperbolic and raised about $10 million in just two days. No need to do a Series A. Just hit Kickstarter.
Pebble Time, along with the just announced Pebble Time Steel, has rocketed the 2nd campaign to $15 million taking the crown from previous holder Coolest Cooler. In a sophisticated marketing push, Pebble released Pebble Time Steel earlier today at a $70 increase over the standard Pebble Time causing a rush to upgrade that forced Kickstarter to its knees as it struggled to handle the server load. Pebble also challenged the as of yet released Apple Watch by announcing a 10 day battery life. The Apple Watch has been rumored to hold a charge for a single day. Pebble added a twist with its smartstraps leveraging the real estate in the band to incorporate additional battery power, GPS and fitness monitoring capabilities. At this moment over 60,000 backers have signed up for the watch. Quite a week for Eric and team.
Anyone want to take a guess at how much Pebble will raise over the next three weeks?
