Just one day after announcing the launch of its Indiegogo campaign, production company Broken Lizard has managed to raise $2 million from nearly 19,000 backers for the sequel to the hilarious film, Super Troopers.
As previously reported, Broken Lizard took to the crowdfunding platform to raise funds for the highly anticipated sequel:
“Several moons ago, we made a little indie movie called Super Troopers, which we debuted at Sundance in 2001. We’re proud of how it turned out and apparently it struck a chord with many of you out there because almost daily we get asked, ‘Who wants a mustache ride?’ (‘Who doesn’t?’) or ‘Did you chug real maple syrup? (‘Yes, and we will never, ever, ever, do it again.’) or ‘How is the view from sugar heaven?’ (‘Sweet.’) But more than anything else, we get asked, ‘When are you gonna get off your a**es and make Super Troopers 2?’
“We’ve been waiting for years to do this, and meow the time has come. Our mustaches are thick, furry and authoritative. The script is written and we’re getting all antsy in our pantsy to start shooting. There’s just one problem.
“While the studio has given us permission to make the sequel, and agreed to distribute it (at least in USA and Canada), we need to fund the movie ourselves. So this is how it works: if we’re able to raise at least $2,000,000 in the next month, we’ll be able to get to work on a barebones version of Super Troopers 2 this summer. But $2,000,000 is the bare minimum we’ll need to get into production.
“We’re got some big stuff in the script, and if we’re able to raise enough money, you’ll get to see all of it. The more we raise, the more amazing stuff we can put in the movie. More action, more cameos, more shenanigans, and fine, more Farva.”
Within only two hours of its launch, the campaign raised well over $200,000. Now it as it continues to near the initial $2 million goal. Thanking fans for their contributions, the Broken Lizard crew stated in a recent update:
“We’re psyched to say that we’ve blown past the halfway point and we’re rapidly approaching the $2 million mark! We couldn’t do this without your help and you have no idea how grateful we are for your contributions, shares, comments…all of it! You’re a bunch of rock stars and we’re simultaneously humbled and pumped. Pumbled is probably the best way to describe it.”
Also sharing details about their recent AMA on Reddit, the team explained:
“The five of us had a great time talking to you on the Reddit AMA. Lemme’s eyes were crossed by the end of it. [Lemme note: I wrote 4,000 messages!] [Jay note: Not really.] You had the typical assortment of smart and ludicrous questions, and we had some even better answers. New Jaguar game anyone? WKOWCHOW! (That’s the sound a jaguar makes.)
“Since then, we’ve been busy responding to your questions and posts via email, Facebook, Twitter and carrier pigeon. We’re grateful for your contributions, and it looks like you’ve been grabbing some of our favorite perks. (Patrol car? Speaking line? Baseball game? Gone, gone and gone.
