SnapPower announced that just 24 hours after debuting the SnapPower Charger campaign on the crowdfunding giant Kickstarter, the project has raised more than $350,000 from more than 8,500 backers, 10 times the company’s goal of $35,000.
The SnapPower Charger is a USB charger built into the cover plate of the standard household electrical outlets. It eliminates the need for plug-in USB chargers/adapters and allows users to plug their USB cables directly into the cover plate while freeing up the outlets for other uses. The SnapPower Charger features the company’s patented Power Prong technology and installs in seconds with no wiring whatsoever.
The SnapPower Charger is designed to be installed over the standard electrical outlet with the patented “Power Extractors” sliding around the electrical outlet receptacle and making contact with the sides of the outlet to draw its power. This technology enables the device to extract power from the receptacle without having to hardwire, plug into or occupy an outlet.
SnapPower’s patented technology in electrical cover plates is a future-forward solution to solving a host of household issues, which started last year with the debut of their award-winning SnapRays Guidelight.
SnapPower co-founder, Sean Watkins, stated:
“We were blown away by the response of the Kickstarter community with our first project. Since then we’ve been overwhelmed with requests for more powered cover plates incorporating the same easy-install technology as the Guidelight. Putting a USB charging port in the cover plate itself has been one of the most requested uses. We’re thrilled with the support we’re seeing for this project after just one day and hope to bring it to market as quickly as possible.”
Last year’s Kickstarter campaign for the SnapRays Guidelight saw tremendous success. The product blew away the funding goal of $12,000 in just two hours and ultimately raised $480,411 with 9,086 backers in 30 days. It also held the No. 1 spot on Kickstarter’s Popular page for nearly a week.
The SnapPower Charger has successfully raised over $435,000 so far. Its campaign is set to run through May 14th.
