Without the cloud, a PC or having to pay a single fee, MEEM, a charger cord that automatically backs up the personal data from your phone when it is charged, is now crowdfunding on Crowdcube. The company is also negotiating with a leading multinational company to license its IP.

Given that our smartphones help us remember our most photographable memories, losing a phone–whether to theft or a plunge in the great deep of the washing machine–can be a nightmare beyond the hassle of replacing it. MEEM, based in Islington, London, offers a two-in-one approach of pairing data storage with phone charging, with no third-party access to your phone. Data can also be transferred across platforms and between devices, including iOS and Android platforms.
As of this writing, MEEM has raised £330,600 of its £400,000 target from 79 investors for 3.49% equity offered. The largest investment so far is £250,000, and the share types are A (£5,000) and B. In a recent update, the company’s Crowdcube campaign page also notes that it is now offering A-Class shares to all investments above £5000. Only 29 days remain in MEEM’s campaign.
MEEM’s leader is Kelly Sumner, former CEO of RedOctane (Guitar Hero) and Take-Two (Grand Theft Auto), as well as MD of Commodore UK and CEO of Gametek. In a recent CrowdfundChampion.com article, Sumner noted,
MEEM supports the upgrade to smartphones because it seamlessly and simply facilitates the transfer of personal data from old phones to new. Once the transition has been made, MEEM protects the users’ data through its simple and secure back-up that fits in to the daily charging routine and enables the transfer of data across multiple devices, regardless of technology platform.
