Last month, Netherlands-based studio 2Awesome Studio took to famous crowdfunding platform Kickstarter with a mission to raise €30,000 for its new video game Dimension Drive.
The game was described as comic book-styled space adventure set in a multidimensional universe. It features a teleportation mechanic that allows you to fight on two battlefields at once, and gameplay combining shooting, defense and fast puzzling action.
Other features include:
- Sci-fi Adventure
- 4 Game Modes
- Energy Management
- Advanced Scoring System
- Teleportation
Before nearing the end of the campaign’s run (and being just thousands away from the initial goal), one single back surprised the startup by donating €7,000 towards the game, knocking the total amount to over €30,000.
Sharing their excitement for the huge donation, the 2Awesome team shared on Twitter:
Who is Jonathan, Jonathan is our hero! We love you and we want to meet you in person! THANK YOU 7000k in a single pledge! #DimensionDrive

Funded at the moment of speaking, can we reach 500 backers? That would be a nice number https://t.co/2V6UAaEAVs#gamedev#indiedev — 2Awesome Studio (@2AwesomeStudio) May 13, 2015
Unfortunately, heartbreak came when Kickstarter alerted 2Awesome that the donation has appeared to be fraudulent. The company addressed the situation on the social media outlet:
We’ve just been informed by Kickstarter that the 7K euro pledge was fraudulent. Somebody played with our dreams. Sorry for the confussion 🙁 — 2Awesome Studio (@2AwesomeStudio) May 13, 2015
Somebody pledge 7k to our Kickstarter just to be taken a way in the last moment. Trolling our end of #Kickstarter. Funded and it’s gone — 2Awesome Studio (@2AwesomeStudio) May 13, 2015
Although feeling a bit defeated by the news, 2Awesome thanked its fans for all the kind words during the situation:
Thanks for all the love guys. Can’t keep up with all the mentions. We’re devastated and thankfull at the same time for all this support.

Hopefully in time, 2Awesome can recover from this and give crowdfunding a second chance.
