In an eloquent video posted to YouTube, Uwe Boll told backers to “F**K yourself” as his 3rd campaign failed. Boll is a German director, producer and screenwriter. You can view a list of his films here. Having failed to raise sufficient funding on Indiegogo, Boll most recently took his project to Kickstarter attempting to raise $55,799. With three days remaining in the campaign, Rampage 3: No Mercy is not even halfway to its goal. The project event stated someone would match ANY pledge made from June 4th on. Sorry but no dice. In 2013, Boll experienced an even stronger rejection when his Postal 2 campaign had to be concelled having raised just $30,000 on a goal of $500,000.
“Basically my message is F**k yourself, because that is so f**king absurd” … this is all f**king b*****t and I will never do it in my life again. For me crowdfunding is absolutely dead”.”
Perhaps it is the other way around? For his erstwhile (and now former) fans maybe Boll’s films are dead?
Crowdfunding for film projects has been a popular category. Big name projects such as Veronica Mars helped to define the space. It is also a popular method for smaller, indie projects to raise production funding. Multiple films that have successsfully crowdfunded and performed well at film festivals like Sundance and captured awards at the Oscars. Unfortunately Boll’s films will not be added to the list.
