Update: Micro Drone 3.0 Soars Past $1M On Indiegogo

With less than two weeks until its crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo comes to an end, UK-technology company Extreme Fliers has successfully raised over $1 million for its latest invention, the Micro Drone 3.0.  The first iteration of their product came out in 2007. This version is being launched on Indiegogo and to date over 7,600 backers have signed up. An added stretch goal now has Meerkat streaming video capabilities – something that may be a first. The next stretch goal is set at $1.5 million where a free video editing package will be added to the drone perks.

The campaign is now the most funded / active crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo. This is no Alibaba repackage either as the Extreme Flier’s team, led by Vernon Kerswell, has put together a drone that cuts no corners.  Vernon actually did a trip to visit the investors of Dragon’s Den some time ago.  He offered up 15% of his young company for £75,000. The Dragons turned him down.  It appears that crowdfunding may work out better for the young entrepreneur as more money is being generated without giving up any ownership in the firm. The crowdfunding campaign has enlisted the assistance of Agency 2.0 so expect this one to go much higher over the coming days.

Micro Drone 3.0 1Extreme Fliers built the Micro Drone 3.0 to be nothing like any other drone. It combines expandable modular technology, sensor-assisted flying and a micro-gimbal for live streaming video in 720p. It is considered the first fully customizable personal drone.

Vernon Kerswell, founder of Extreme Fliers and maker of the Micro Drone recently stated:

“The step up in technology and features we have packed into Micro Drone 3.0 offers users a taste of things you would find in a high end device. We want Micro Drone 3.0 to be usable by anyone, whether first timers or an adaptable drone for enthusiasts. We’re truly excited to share these innovations with the Indiegogo community.”

During a recent update, Extreme Fliers shared details about the project, along with production information for the accompanied device, Micro-Gimbal:

Micro Drone 3.0 4“After reaching our last stretch goal at $250,000 milestone, we are now able to begin manufacturing the Micro-Gimbal on which we have spent nearly 18 months testing and prototyping numerous variations.

“Micro Drone 3.0 is the first drone of its size to feature a user-controlled gimbal equipped with tiny servo motors that will let you control the angle of your camera and create amazing planning shots remotely. With its built-in intelligent sensors, it will allow you to maintain a steadier shot while flying, so you do not have to be an expert flier to create amazing video feeds.”

Backers can receive the Micro Drone 3.0 for the price of $150 which seems pretty reasonable given the technology bundled up in this pocket drone.

The campaign is set to close late this month.
