With less than 48 hours until its crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo comes to an end, Blue Frog Robotics‘ family companion robot, Buddy, has successfully secured close to $388,000 thanks to over 625 backers.
Buddy is a social robot that connects, protects, and interacts with each member of the family. By being open sourced and easy to use, the tiny robot protects the user’s home, entertains the kids, and helps everyone stay connected.
Some tasks Buddy can are the following:
- Be a personal assistant: Reminds the users about important tasks and events that are in agendas.
- Watch over the home: Patrols, monitors and alerts anything that happens in the household
- Hands-free helper: Suggests recipes, plays music, and even answers calls.
- A child’s friend: Allows children to learn through play while having fun.
During a recent update, the French startup announced that Buddy will have an air freshener capability if the project surpasses $400,000:
“We’re pleased to reveal that the next stretch goal ($400K) to unlock is the Air Quality Sensing module for your BUDDY, at no extra cost. Air quality sensing module will be unlocked when the stretch goal of $400K is achieved! Let’s do this!
“Our ultimate goal is to improve quality of life, which is why we took special care to add to your BUDDY a CO2 sensor (carbon dioxyde) to control the quality of indoor air. Thanks to this sensor, your BUDDY can constantly sniff the air and provide a measurement of the concentration of CO2 present in a room’s air. He will identify rooms with unhealthy ventilation rates. He will send real time alerts and give you friendly advices for getting fresh air to dilute various contaminants in the indoor environment.”
The company also added that last Tuesday, Buddy made a special appearance in London. It was also the special guest on Unity’s booth at Gamescom, the Europe’s biggest trade fair for interactive games and entertainment. The friendly robot will be heading across the pond later this month to appear in Boston (August 18th) and San Francisco (August 20th).
The campaign is set to close on Wednesday.
