On Monday, retailer Brookstone announced the arrival of the Indiegogo success, Bluesmart carry-on smart, connected suitcase.
Originally started as an Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign, Bluesmart uses a combination of Bluetooth, GPS, and innovative technologies not found in other suitcases to do things other suitcases simply can’t. The companion Bluesmart app uses a smartphone to track the bag’s location, digitally lock and unlock it, and even weigh the suitcase before getting to the check-in counter.
The Bluesmart carry-on also features an internal USB battery that can charge a typical smartphone up to 6 times, eliminating the need for travelers to stop and find outlets in crowded airports. So it’s no surprise that the luggage was selected as one of the Brookstone Top 10 Wow Gifts of 2015. It is now available at Brookstone airport stores and online for $399.99.
Brookstone CEO, Tom Via, stated:

He then added:
“Bluesmart will revolutionize the way people travel. Gone are the days of worrying about your belongings being stolen, surprise overweight baggage fees when you check in, or wondering where your bag is when it doesn’t show up on the carousel.”
This exciting news comes just one week after Indiegogo announced its partnership with Brookstone. Co-founder and CEO Slava Rubin noted:
“Indiegogo is a one-stop-shop for makers, entrepreneurs and startups to introduce, fund and test the market for their products. By partnering with Brookstone, we’re now also able to offer access to development, manufacturing and distribution services that successful campaigners may need as they move from idea to reality.”
Bluesmart has also debuted on MoMA Design Store Shelves.
