The Importance of Access to Capital: Pepperdine Report Shows Interest Rising for Crowdfunding Equity, Debt

Craig R. EverettPepperdine University Graduate School of Business and Management publishes a periodic report on access to capital and its impact on small business. Authored by Dr. Craig Everett, an assistant professor of finance, his findings indicate growing interest in raising capital online.  The report, completed in partnership with Dun & Bradstreet, shows 20% of respondents would consider equity crowdfunding campaigns as a way to raise capital now that the SEC is allowing it for qualified platforms.  This is an increase from 12% from Q4 of 2014. The report also highlights some information one would expect: Small businesses find access to capital quite challenging and many use friends and family or their own assets to finance company growth.

It will be interesting to see this report at this time next year once Title III starts to gain traction and Reg A+ has had some time to germinate.
