Indiegogo Success Lazer Team Scores Over $1M in Theatrical Release Pre-Sales

Lazer Team 2

Lazer Team, Rooster Teeth’s sci-fi film that captured over $2.3 million through crowdfunding platform Indiegogo, scored over $1 million in theatrical release pre-sales. This was done through the company’s partnership with crowdsourcing company, Tugg.

Speaking about Tugg’s services, CEO Nicolas Gonda revealed to Deadline:

Nicolas Gonda“The crowdsourcing mechanism eliminates the risk for the exhibitor because of pre-sales. It also creates a very social environment. Unlike a traditional process of buying ticket, the ticket buyers here become a team and activate their own channels to create an audience for the film. In this case, the content owner is also able to communicate directly to the ticket buyers and can incentivize the first generation in various ways. So, for Lazer Team, Rooster Teeth gave [ticket buyers] discounts and coupons to their online store as well as promised cast and crew appearances around the world to events that sold out quickest.”

Also discussing the film’s already success, executive producer of the film, George Strompolos, commented:

Lazer Team’s success is a testament to the power of the Rooster Teeth community. We are reimagining what a modern studio can achieve and look forward to bringing more great content like Lazer Team directly to fans worldwide.”

Lazer Team’s synoposis reads:

Lazer Team“When four small-town losers stumble across an alien crash site containing an incredible battle suit, they soon find themselves responsible for the fate of the entire planet. With this new alien equipment genetically bound to them, and the government hot on their heels, the foursome have no choice but to work together as one to save humanity. All they have to do is learn to use a strange alien device meant for only one-person, train for a battle against an omnipotent enemy, and not kill each other in the process. They may not be strong, smart, or talented… but they’re Lazer Team. Based on a true event, Lazer Team is directed by Matt Hullum and stars Burnie Burns, Gavin Free, Michael Jones, Allie DeBerry, Colton Dunn and features Alan Ritchson.”
