This week, Creative England announced that 16 teams have been selected to crowdfund, develop and produce their short films through the latest round of Creative England’s iShorts, delivered as part of the BFI NET.WORK. The campaigns will go live on Crowdfunder UK next month.
Creative England revealed that this year’s iShorts cohort sees regional tales from north, south and everywhere in–between (outside of Greater London) covering themes ranging from imaginary friends and childhood, to cults, divorce and monsters.
iShorts continues its partnership with Crowdfunder to provide the teams with a platform to raise additional funds for their films and build early audience engagement with their projects. Films from last year’s campaign have gone on to be selected for screenings at festivals including Aesthetica Short Film Festival, London Short Film Festival, Lift Off, Kino, LOCO and Flatpack Film Festival.
Caroline Cooper-Charles, head of film at Creative England, stated:
“Supporting talented filmmakers at the start of their careers has to be one of the most rewarding and exciting aspects of our work. iShorts goes from strength to strength and it’s brilliant to see another wonderful collection of stories and teams from every corner of England come together to embark on their journey through development and production. I can’t wait to see the finished results.”
“At Crowdfunder we see talent in many shapes and forms. It’s ridiculously exciting to be working with these incredible filmmakers to amplify the funds they’ve received with the support from the crowd. Films are a common crowdfunding theme and it’s brilliant to know that we are working with the future of England’s talent. Those crowdfunding today could well be the directors, producers and writers of tomorrows blockbusters. We can’t wait to see the projects go live on crowdfunder.co.uk, reach out to their communities and raise even more money from the crowd to make their ideas a reality.”
Dan Simmons, head of partnerships at Creative Skillset, added:
“Short films provide a fantastic launchpad for emerging filmmakers to gain invaluable skills, experience and contacts, showcase their voice and vision, and build their career. I’m delighted that Creative Skillset is able to once again support iShorts. Congratulations to all the selected filmmakers.”
