CEO of Crowdcube Success Grind & Co. Talks Growth & Expansion Plans

This week, media outlet Evening Standard sat down with David Abrahamovitch, CEO and co-founder of Crowdcube success Grind & Co., to discuss the company’s growth and expansion plans.

Grind 5Last summer Grind, the coffee and cocktail company behind UK shops Shoreditch Grind, Soho Grind, Holborn Grind and London Grind, recently launched a mini-bond on Crowdcube to raise £750,000 for expansion and to take control of its supply chain. During its time on the crowdfunding platform, Grind secured nearly £1.3 million.

During the interview, Abrahamovitch revealed how the company became so successful in such a short period of time:

“Two of the things we got right — the coffee and the atmosphere — meant that people came in and came back. Coffee geeks tend to drink espresso and black coffee, as it’s the purest way to taste it, but that leads to you designing your blend for black drinks. The reality is 95%-plus of our drinks are served with milk, because that’s what people drink in London, so we designed our blend primarily to work with milk.”

David Abrahamovitch and Kaz JamesHe then discussed how Grind attracted various investors:

“It’s successful on a scale but also feels independent — a chain that’s not a chain.”

In regards to where the company plans to expand, Abrahamovitch noted that he and his team are more focused on the product, not new locations:

“We’re focused on the next couple of sites — keeping it cool and high quality. I never want anyone to have a bad Grind coffee. It would break my heart.”
