This week, Japanese production studio Ys Net announced that it has created a new Chinese website for its Kickstarter success project, Shenmue III. The company, which was founded in 2008 by well-known video game developer Yu Suzuki, revealed that it will be accepting contributions through the Chinese payment system Alipay on the website.
Shenmue III is described as the true sequel to the classic open world action RPG games Shenmue and Shenmue II. The game’s story reads:
“Ryo Hazuki has made his way to China in search of his father’s killer. There he meets a new travelling companion, Shenhua, and learns of a legend from her village that has foretold their path together. The story continues as Ryo and Shenhua start off on a new journey that will take them farther into enemy territory, deeper into mystery, and ever closer to their destiny.”
With the addition of Alipay, Ys Net is responding to the many requests of fans from the greater China area who were not previously able to contribute to the campaign. Some rewards from Kickstarter will be available, including end credit naming ($100), an illustration signed by Yu Suzuki, the game director ($300), and a limited edition figure set ($500). In addition, the game software packaging will feature a different design from the Kickstarter version.
