Last week, UK-based startup Roccbox hit global crowdfunding platform Indiegogo to raise $100,000 for its self-titled stone baked pizza oven. Less than 12 hours of its debut, the project surpassed its initial goal.
The Roccobox is described as an easy-to-use, 930°F (500°C) oven that cooks “restaurant quality” pizza in about 90 seconds. Users of the appliance may choose between the wood fired cooking method or gas. The oven is created with commercial grade materials so that it is durable and more importantly, it is portable.
The company explained:
“Roccbox is a portable, lightweight, wood and gas fired stone floor oven. It cooks beautiful Neapolitan pizza in under 90 seconds as well as an unlimited number of your favourite meat, fish and vegetable dishes. Until now, wood fired ovens have only been accessible to those with a big budget and permanent, outdoor space. Roccbox solves these problems and brings authentic wood and gas fired cooking to everybody.”
Sharing details about creating the oven, founder and CEO of Roccbox, Tom Gozney, stated:
“I wanted to take the hard work out of wood fired cooking. Making it possible for anyone to own a stone bake oven with even the smallest outdoor space and a limited budget has been a dream of mine since I started The Stone Bake Oven Company 6 years ago.
“My commercial wood and gas fired oven business, Gozney Ovens is the UK’s market leader. Seeing the unbeatable results produced from my commercial ovens when using the highest quality, commercial-grade materials meant that nothing was compromised during the design and manufacturing of Roccbox. The cooking results rival that of my commercial ovens without a doubt!”
Those who back the project can receive the oven right now for $489. Since its launch, the campaign has successfully secured over $760,000 from 1600 backers.
Showing its support for Roccbox, Indiegogo posted a new infographic that shares details about the campaign (so far).
The campaign is set to close mid-April.
