On Friday, Canada-based startup North Aware closed its widely popular crowdfunding campaign for its jacket, Smart Parka. It secured a total of $3,257,695CAD from 8,805 backers and became the most funded Canadian initiative on the crowdfunding platform.
There are 4 different styles of the parka for the ladies and 3 for men. The feature list includes tablet pocket for the iPad, built in scarf, gloves stashed in the sleeve, glasses pocket, hat pocket, phone pocket and more.
North Aware explained:
“We believe that going out in winter should not be intimidating. It should be fun. We found a real problem with winter coats. If the weather turns bad, and you don’t have your gloves or anything to cover your face, you are not protected.”
Sharing details about coat’s success, the North Aware team stated:
“With your incredible support, North Aware has crossed the $3 million CAD threshold, making us the #1 MOST FUNDED campaign in CAD, of all time, and all categories! THANK YOU for helping us reach this historic moment, and helping us break records along the way! As we have mentioned in the past, if we had backing for over 7,000 coats, we would manufacture them in Canada. While we have to wait for confirmation of final quantities, we are fairly sure we have reached this goal, which means that we’ll try our best to keep the jobs in Canada.
“What do you need to do next? Sit tight and wait: We will send you a survey for style selection, glove size, color, etc. We will offer 2-way zippers on Classic and Vogue styles for both men and women. We will also be improving some aspects of the design over the next few weeks, and we’ll keep you updated. In addition, you will get a North Aware Backer card, which will give you a 10% discount for the next 10 years on all our products. It’s very important to us that we deliver your coats on time, but at the same time we want to be efficient on customer support for our thousands of backers.”
Smart Parkas are set to be delivered to backers in August 2016.
