Flaming Fowl Studios Shuts Down “Fable Fortune” Kickstarter After Receiving Outside Funding

Fable 3

Indie games developer, Flaming Fowl Studios, announced on Tuesday that it has decided to pull the plug on the Fable Fortune Kickstarter campaign. The initiative was launched last month to raise £250,000 for the Fable theme collectible card game.

Fable 1Fable Fortune is described as a free-to-play collectible card game (CCG) that combines the franchise’s most cherished gameplay systems with an array of pioneering game modes. Flaming Fowl Studio reportedly consists of a team of former Lionhead Studio workers. Lionhead, the original developer of Fable, was shut down by Microsoft earlier this year. Luckily for Flaming Fowl, the technology giant has reportedly allowed the new studio to create its new card game for Xbox One, PC and Mobile, but did not give it full rights.

“We approached Microsoft – hoping for the best, prepared for a corporate hand to the face. To our delight they were very open to the idea and agreed to grant us the [license] for Fable Fortune. To be clear, we haven’t been granted a license to the entire Fable franchise, Microsoft have retained these rights, but we have the creative freedom to continue developing Fortune as an independent studio. We care deeply about Fable and it means the world to us that Microsoft have trusted us to continue using the IP.”

During a recent update, the Flaming Fowl Studios team shared:

Fable 2“We are happy to announce that we’ve successfully secured additional development funding! This, alongside our ongoing personal investment, will mean that we can continue to improve the game and allow even more of you to start playing. With the immediate future of Fable Fortune now secure, we have taken the decision to end our Kickstarter campaign early to focus on releasing a Closed Beta build as quickly as possible. As we’ve always stated, we want to make this game with your help, your feedback and your input.”

They went on to add:

“We have huge plans for Fortune and we know that whatever happens in the future, it all started with our already incredible community.”
