Abel Tasman ParadiseThe property, listed on  RealEstate.co.nz, is described as 7-hectarere utopia.  It is a “rare and stunning location offers a once in a life time opportunity for private ownership of your very own beach and land package in idyllic Awaroa.” The beach was up for private sale in March, which sparked the idea to crowdfund for the area’s purchase.

Duane Major, one of the campaign organizers, previously stated:

“It’s been a privilege to be a part of this collective expression of what we hold dear. We love our land, every piece, and there is a sadness every time a little piece leaves our care. We want to be able to pass that on to our children, to care and protect, and give it as a gift to the legacy of New Zealand.”

Major recently told BBC:

“It’s a great day. Sometimes you can feel powerless, so for us, it’s been a marvelous experience of empowerment. There’s been a real feeling of coming together. People in other countries have recognized what it’s been all about too. We’re in an age with various forms of technology that can pull people apart. But in this case, it brought people together.”

Major also noted that New Zealand’s government offered a small contribution to the crowdfunding campaign. He then added the Maori community would be involved in the future of the area.
