Last week, creators of the social platform, Spontly, took to equity crowdfunding platform Seedrs to raise £200,000. Within a matter of days, the initiative successfully secured over £170,000 from nearly 80 investors.
Spontly is described as a platform for building social apps for existing community. Its current main markets include sports such as football, rugby, golf, and tennis along with leisure clubs. The app delivers the latest news, results, and forum for each venue. The Spontly team noted that by being club specific, they are allowed to into the “tribal nature” of sports fans. Each of the platform’s communities have their apps and websites that are branded with team colors and shirts.
“Our aim is build the largest network of sports fans on the planet. We have a custom product for each community that leads to strong engagement with our target audience. An aggregated back-end and database solution means we can offer sponsorship, advertising and marketing solutions right across the network.”
The team also revealed since the launch of its first app in 2014, they have produced 200 apps that are running on the platform, and Spontly’s network has over 120,000 monthly active users and 2.5 million page views a month on the websites.
“We have demonstrated the ability to drive deep growth for a particular community. In the case of Rangers FC with circa 10,000 monthly active users.”

Funds from the campaign will be used to expand its sales team and improve the quality of the apps’ commentary and player statistics. The initiative is set to close mid-September.
