This week, Rooster Teeth announced its Indiegogo project, Lazer Team, is officially getting a sequel that will premiere on YouTube Red in 2017. The film received over $2.3 million during its crowdfunding campaign in 2014 and raised an additional $1 million in theatrical release pre-sales. It premiered in January 2016.
Matt Hullum, co-founder and CEO of Rooster Teeth, reportedly stated:
“Thanks to this amazing partnership with YouTube and the platform’s incredible reach, we’ll be able to bring ‘Lazer Team 2’ to millions of fans across the world.‘Lazer Team’s’ success on YouTube Red proved that with the right partner we’re able to capture new audience and give our fans more access to the content they love, and we couldn’t be happier to be doing it again.”
Susanne Daniels, YouTube’s global head of original programming, commented:
“Rooster Teeth’s massive audience on YouTube made their first sci-fi-comedy on YouTube Red a fan favorite, and we can’t wait to team up again with this creative powerhouse and Fullscreen Films to deliver another hit for their fans.”
Lazer Team’s synopsis reads:
“When four small-town losers stumble across an alien crash site containing an incredible battle suit, they soon find themselves responsible for the fate of the entire planet. With this new alien equipment genetically bound to them, and the government hot on their heels, the foursome have no choice but to work together as one to save humanity. All they have to do is learn to use a strange alien device meant for only one-person, train for a battle against an omnipotent enemy, and not kill each other in the process. They may not be strong, smart, or talented… but they’re Lazer Team. Based on a true event, Lazer Team is directed by Matt Hullum and stars Burnie Burns, Gavin Free, Michael Jones, Allie DeBerry, Colton Dunn and features Alan Ritchson.”
