The Austin, Texas-based fashion brand offers apparel for both men and boys. Its Players Shirt has also been dubbed as the “new old-school golf shirt” by the Wall Street Journal as well as being called the “perfect polo” by Details Magazine. Criquet Shirts has reportedly sold over 100,000 polos, which are all made out of 100% organic cotton.
Sharing details about the funding round, Hobson Brown, Criquet Shirts co-founder, stated:
“We’ve found the perfect partner in CircleUp. Their laser focus on up-and-coming consumer goods and innovative approach to venture capital provides us with valuable expertise and the resources we need to continue growing, be it through production or marketing and everything in between.”
Asher Hochberg, CircleUp’s Head of Corporate Development, also commented:
“Criquet Shirts has differentiated itself from other men’s retailers by focusing on reviving classic styles, with a commitment to comfort and sustainability. At CircleUp, we use an immense amount of data to comprehensively evaluate early-stage consumer businesses, leading us to accept less than 5 percent of applicants. Criquet Shirts is an excellent addition to our carefully selected family of brands.”
In regards to Criquet Shirts unique apparel, Brown added:
“Inspired by vintage shirts of past generations, we set out to make a modern polo with timeless style. I believe we accomplished that goal and we’re ready to find new ways to keep our customers looking sharp and ready to relax at the clink of a glass.”
Criquet Shirts raised $705,000 from angel investors in 2013 and 2014.
