Less than nine months after pulling the plug on his Hero’s Song Kickstarter campaign, former Sony President, John Smedley, has relaunched the project on Indiegogo. The new campaign is seeking to raise $200,000. As reported, Hero’s Song is an open world rogue-like fantasy game that is done in 2D pixel art. The game’s description reads:
“Create epic fantasy worlds uniquely shaped by your choices, the power of the gods, and thousands of years of history. Become a legendary hero in a dangerous and mysterious world of magic and monsters. Explore endless dungeons and ancient cities in long forgotten lands in search of knowledge, treasure and the power of the gods!”
At the time of the Kickstarter launch, Smedley announced his new studio, Pixelmage Games. The company previously noted:
“Hero’s Song uses the familiar click-to-move and attack controls of classic action RPGs like Diablo III or Path of Exile. Combat takes a more measured pace, giving you time to react to the intelligent tactics of your enemies and to thoughtfully deploy your wide variety of skills and abilities.True to its ‘hardcore nature,’ combat in Hero’s Song is dangerous and has very real consequences including th echagnes of permanent death. Friendly fire is always defaulted to ‘on,’ so positioning and precision are very important considerations. Death will come quickly if you think this is a simple clickfest.”
Estimated to be delivered in March 2017, Hero’s Song is currently available on Indiegogo starting at $15. Other backer rewards include t-shirts, wallpaper pack, digital strategy guide, digital soundtrack, hoodies, and closed development forum access. Since its launch, the campaign has successfully secured nearly $60,00 from more than 1700 backers. It is set to close at the beginning of October.
