With inXile Entertainment’s Wasteland 3 campaign set to close on Fig later this evening, the project has officially surpassed $3.1 million from nearly 17,500 backers. The studio is no stranger to crowdfunding and previously raised $2.9 million from 61,290 backers on Kickstarter for Wasteland 2 nearly five years ago.
Last month the studio launched the campaign earlier this month and was seeking to raise $2,750,000 to bring the highly anticipated game to life. Wasteland 3 is described as a party-based roleplaying game (RPG) with an emphasis on deep reactivity, deployability, and strategic combat. It revealed at the new initiative’s debut:
“You start the game as the sole survivor of Team November, a Ranger squad dispatched to the icy Colorado wastes. This is a land of buried secrets, lost technology, fearsome lunatics, and deadly factions. No one here has ever heard of the Desert Rangers. Your reputation is yours to build from scratch, and your choices may save this land or doom it. With a renewed focus on macro-reactivity, you’ll be picking between warring factions, deciding whether locations are destroyed or saved, and making other far reaching decisions that have a marked impact on the shape of your world.”
Wasteland 3 will be available in single player as well as synchronous/asynchronous multiplayer and will be released on Windows Mac, Linux PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. The game’s digital copy (PC only) is starting at $33. The PC version is planned to be available on Steam and GOG. It is to be determined for the console platforms. Estimated delivery for the game is late 2019. InXile Entertainment stated it will be giving backers a free Steam of GOG copy of Shadowrun: DragonFall-Director’s Cut from Harebrained Schemes to all that back the project with $40 or more.
