Kickstarter Opens Crowdfunding Platform For Artists & Creators in Mexico

Flag_of_MexicoOn Tuesday, Kickstarter CEO and co-founder, Yancey Strickler, announced the crowdfunding platform is now welcoming artists and creators to its website for the first time. In a blog post called Build Bridges, Not Walls, Yancey stated he and his team are now removing the barrier for creators in Mexico so that they may bring their ideas to life on Kickstarter funding portal. He explained:

“It creates opportunity for Mexican creators to share their ideas with the millions of people around the world from Kickstarter’s community. It creates opportunity for the world to support and be inspired by those new ideas. And it creates opportunity for us all to come together and better understand and learn from one another.”

yancey-stricklerStrickler described Mexico as a country that has long stood at the vanguard of creative culture. He revealed that even before the launch, Mexico creators already inspired he and his team by working with collaborators in other countries to fund projects on the crowdfunding giant’s portal. He also noted by teaming up, Kickstarter and Mexico creators can stand together to work on bridging cultures and help creativity get a voice. He added:

“Now more than ever, those voices matter and deserve a space to develop and be heard. In the weeks to come, we’ll amplify many of them. And we’re committing to donate our 5% fee from every project launched in Mexico during our first 100 days there to a Mexico-based charitable organization fighting for a more creative and equitable world. We’re excited to share more about them and their mission soon.”

Yancey then listed a few projects from Mexico creators that are currently live on Kickstarter:
