On Monday, Finland-based electronic company Eve Tech has launched a crowdfunding campaign on Indiegogo for its new crowd developed computer, Eve V. Originally seeking $75,000 for the project, the initiative has already secured more than $550,000 from over 600 backers. The company also sold 500 units and sold out (luckily, they were able to re-stock and continue the 30-day campaign run).

It decided to open a community for those looking to create an “even better” product, and more than 1,000 users have collaborated online to develop the Eve V. The computer’s features are the following:

  • 12 hours of real battery life
  • 2736 x1824 IGZO LCD display
  • Quad speakers & professional-grade dedicated audio amplifier by TI
  • Thunderbolt 3, USB-C and 2 full-sized USB-A 3.0
  • Latest 7th Gen Intel Core CPU
  • Durable aluminum unibody
  • Detachable laptop-grade keyboard with wireless mode
  • No Bloatware, Windows 10 Home or Pro

The company also compared its new device to Microsoft’s Surface Pro 4, Asus Transformer 3 Pro, Apple MacBook 12, and Dell XPS 13.

Eve Tech also revealed:

“Eve keyboard will come with ANSI (US) layout by default. As we have seen high demand for country specific layouts in the community we decided to provide you with such an option. After you purchase Eve V we will send you out a survey asking for what layout you would like to have in your device when it is shipped. Some layouts may add up to 20 USD extra. This will be fulfilled if minimum 10 people order that layout.”

Those interested in purchasing the Eve V may do so starting at $199 (for the Core m3 Reservation – 8GB RAM and 128GB ROM). Other perks are $299 Eve V Core i5 (8GB RAM and 256GB ROM), and $399 for Eve V Core i7 (16GB RAM and 512GB ROM). Estimated arrival time for the Eve V is currently set for February 2017; the campaign is set to close in mid-December.
