Liketobe, a platform that connects professionals with schoolchildren wanting to learn more about different jobs and careers, announced it was prepping to launch an equity crowdfunding campaign on Crowdcube. The website is seeking £150,000 as it prepares to expand its services.
The platform revealed that it allows companies of all sizes and their employees to engage with schools, whether locally or in hard to reach areas; rural of socially deprived locations. It was noted Liketobe’s founder Antony Jinman believes that currently careers guidances is disconnected from reality, and thinks that Liketobe creates a whole new way for children to be involved in career fields they’re interested in.
“Founder and polar adventurer, Antony Jinman, had no idea what he wanted to do when he left school. The career guidance he received was a computer printout advising him to join the Royal Navy. However, the Navy wasn’t for him and instead he decided to [pursue] his boyhood dream to visit Antarctica and see a penguin. He used these polar experiences to connect classrooms with live expeditions, which was inspirational for children and teachers alike- from this Liketobe was born.”
During a recent interview, Jinman shared more details about Liketobe’s platform:
“We have to inspire the next generation and help children realize their full potential. Through my adventures, and talking with young people in schools across the South West, I’ve realized that there is something very special about connecting people who are passionate about their work with children starting to think about what they want to do in their life. Liketobe will be a resource for children, parents, schools, and colleges with companies and organizations seeking to inspire the talent they need, be it out future doctors, nurses, scientists or engineers.”
Liketobe’s Crowdcube is set to launch soon.
