Victoria Islamic Center Rebuilding GoFundMe Campaign Secures Nearly $900,000 in Two Days

Following the devastating fire at the Victoria Islamic Center in Victoria, Texas, a GoFundMe campaign was launched to raise $850,000 for the rebuilding of the mosque. Within two days, the initiative secured nearly $900,000 thanks to more than 18,700 supporters.

In the early hours of Saturday, the fire broke out and destroyed the mosque. The news of the fire came just hours after President Trump issued a 90-day travel ban for seven countries and a 120-day halt of the Syrian refugee relief. The center’s staff issued a statement that read:

“Investigation is still ongoing on the cause of fire by local, state, FBI, and ATF! The outpouring support from our wonderful Victoria community and all over the nation have been phenomenal! UNITED WE STAND! Please don’t politicize the tragedy!”

The campaign was then launched to help with the rebuilding of the center, and by Sunday evening, it raised well over $700,000. The staff shared:

“Our hearts are filled with gratitude for the tremendous support we’ve received. The outpouring of love, kind words, hugs, helping hands and the financial contributions are examples of the true American Spirit. We’re so very much thankful and appreciative of everyone’s thoughtfulness. Based on rough engineering estimates and the original cost of construction, we’ve revised the to be closer to amount it’s going to cost to rebuild the mosque.”

The staff also noted that supporters from all over joined its gathering, along with thousands of messages, prayers, and donations from all over the globe has been donated to show support for the mosque. All funds will be used to help rebuild the center.
