Less than one week after launching a Kickstarter campaign for Banner Saga 3, video game studio Stoic is quickly nearing its $200,000 funding target thanks to more than 4,000 backers.
As previously reported, the first Banner Saga successfully secured $723,886 from 20,043 backers in 2012 and was released on PC and mobile in 2014. Stoic decided to fund Banner Saga 2 on its own and not through crowdfunding. Now, nearly five years after the first campaign, the studio is using the crowdfunding method for the third and final Banner Saga game. John Watson, co-founder and technical director at Stoic, revealed in a statement:
“We’re going full circle and returning to Kickstarter where it all began. In 2012, the backers were instrumental in bringing the saga to life, smashing our initial funding target that led us to increase the scope, fidelity and production values of Banner Saga. We’re proud to be indie, and despite the stellar support we get from our publisher, Versus Evil, we’re not taking any outside funding to bring this series home, we’d love Kickstarter support to add additional features that are simply beyond our current budget.”
Banner Saga 3’s description reads:
“Banner Saga 3 is the highly anticipated final game of an award winning trilogy. It’s a role-playing game merged with turn-based strategy, wrapped into an adventure mini-series about Vikings. Many modern games play it safe – you are the chosen one who always saves the day. Our game is different, you can’t take anything for granted in Banner Saga.”
In a recent update, the Stoic team stated:
“Right now we’re hustling to put together our first STRETCH GOAL that we’re excited to announce soon. It’s something you’ve been asking to see for a long time and we’ll roll it out when it’s fully baked!”
Backers of the campaign will receive the video game starting at $20, and the estimated delivery is December 2018. The initiative is set to close on March 7th.
