Energized! Place to Plug Closes Nears 100K€ Crowdcube Spain Goal

With thirteen days remaining on its campaign, Place to Plug has raised over 80 percent of its goal from over 72 Crowdcube Spain investors.  To date the campaign has raised just over 81,140€ for 20.00% equity; 20,000€ is the largest investment to date.

Place to Plug, headquartered in Tarragona, Spain, is a platform that allows electric vehicle (EV) drivers to know the status of charging points and to easily activate them from their smartphones. Within six months, Place to Plug has already been accepted in the KIC InnoEnergy acceleration program and closed agreements with Barcelona, Oslo and Amsterdam. Place to Plug wants to be the VE recharging platform worldwide, aiming to eliminate the “anxiety of autonomy,” a main concern of  VE drivers.

“Providing a map of charging points is not enough to alleviate this fear of not knowing if you can reach your destination,  since charging points can be out of service or require a specific card for activation,” according to the campaign. “Place to Plug solves this problem by providing real time availability of charging points and by facilitating the activation of the points without a card.”

Founded by CEO Josep Cester, Place to Plug users pay a subscription of 12 euros per year, and allows them to activate charging included in platform points. Users will also pay €0.99 for every booking of charging point wishing to do. Once the platform’s user community grows, Place to Plug plans to add personalized advertising.

How does it work? The activation of recharging stations from Place to Plug is very simple. The user simply opens the app on her smartphone and geolocation shows the nearest recharging stations. Once selected, the user can start recharging with a single click. In the event that the user wants to book a point of recharge in the collaborative platform, she can do so at any time by selecting the desired and indicating the date and time of arrival. The owner of the reserved point will receive a message warning of the reserve and to confirm or reject the charge.

Place to Plug’s  short-term goal is simple: adding more places to plug and increasing the community of drivers of VE. 75% achieved investment will be used to carry out marketing activities, another 25% will enable to implement the changes necessary to incorporate new charging points.

Crowdfunds will be used to join the European platform Hubject to operate with 10,000 charging points, create and disseminate marketing content, conduct results analysis and strategy refinement and initiate automated marketing. The EV platform’s marketing strategy is segmented into 3 parts:

  • Drivers see: use of Inbound Marketing, Adwords and Social Ads to create traffic toward landing page and expand user community
  • Operators of recharging points: strategic alliances with power operators both cities to allow the activation of its points from the platform.
  • Suppliers of private recharging points: contact owners of private recharging points (hotels, campsites, restaurants…) to include points
