Counting Down to the Kickstarter-Funded Revival: Netflix Showcases 20 Classic Episodes of “Mystery Science Theater 3000”

With the Kickstarter-funded revival of Mystery Science Theater 3000 set to premiere on Netflix next month, the online/streaming service is now showcasing 20 classic episodes of the sci-fi cult series.

Joel Hodgson, the creator of Mystery Science Theater 3000, launched a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter in 2015 with a mission to raise as much funding as possible so that he could to revive the series. Originally seeking $2 million, the initiative secured  $5,764,229 from 48,270 backers. Last month, Hodgson shared the exciting news that the revival show will premiere on April 14th:

You know, I always promised that I’d tell you as soon as I found out, and Netflix actually just told me as we were finishing the Q&A session for our screening here in Los Angeles. So, I wanted to write and tell you right away. Anyway, I’m off to meet some of the wonderful backers who came out for tonight’s screening, but I wanted to make sure you heard the news from me before you see it somewhere else. I’ll have more news for you soon. And just so you don’t worry, we promise: if your rewards include the new episodes – or the livestream screening of the first new episode — we’ll make sure you have them by April 14, when the new episodes premiere on Netflix.”

On Wednesday the Mystery Science Theater 3000 team revealed the exciting news about the 20 episodes through Facebook.
