Independent wine merchant and wine bar concept, Humble Grape, has officially surpassed its initial £1 million funding target on equity crowdfunding platform Seedrs. The campaign was launched last month, and all funds will be used for expansion.
As previously reported, Humble Grape raised over £500,000 on Seedrs in 2014 and has reportedly grown quickly since that time and now employs more than 35 staff and imports over 400 wines from 11 different countries. Speaking about the new campaign and its success, founder of Humble Grape, James Dawson, stated:
“This is about offering our customers the opportunity to become further invested in Humble Grape. We’ve let customer feedback and input shape our brand so far and no matter how big we grow, I want this to continue. I believe in crowdfunding because it gives customers who believe in a brand the opportunity to become a part of its growth and share in its success. We’re all about bringing our customers closer to the source, connecting them with the winemakers and giving them access to wines that would otherwise be unavailable. I want Humble Grape to belong to the people who believe in what we are doing.”
Longstanding customer and investor of Humble Grape, Abi, also noted:
“I’ve been a Humble Grape client since it was founded; watching and experiencing it grow first hand – from bespoke tasting events to an established brand. I love the Humble Grape ethos, the distinctive qualities of the team and the calibre of the wines. I invested in the first round and again for the second. It’s great to feel as engaged with the business as I am with the product.”
Humble Grape added it is planning to expand across London, each maintaining a unique identity, taking into consideration local community and personalised USPs. Investors will also gain additional privileges and discounts as well as being the first access to new imports and opportunities to visit different vineyards.
