AirAsia Set to Launch New Fintech Platform for Flights

AirAsia announced this week plans to launch its very own fintech platform later this fall. According to CEO, Tan Sri Tony Fernandes, the company is currently waiting for approval from Bank Negara Malaysia for the new program, which was named “The Big.”

The new program will notably enable banking and financial services to process in-flight purchases for more than 60 million customers for AirAsia annually. During a press conference during the 2017 Skytrax World Airline Awards, Fernandes reportedly stated:

This would ease the purchasing process in the future, especially when AirAsia aims to achieve a record of 100 million customers flying with us by 2021.”

Fernandes also noted that AirAsia is currently looking to increase its fleet size from 10 aircrafts to 20 by the end of 2018 for its AirAsia India division. He added:

About AirAsia India going on international routes, we plan to see more flight frequencies from a city in India and fly directly to Bali and so on.”

Founded in 2001, AirAsia has been named World’s Best Low Cost Airline by Skytrax from 2009 to 2016.
