Send Money via Skype Using PayPal: Pay Up While Catching Up

Put your money where you mouth is. Luxembourg-headquartered Skype developed and launched Send Money, a fintech feature that allows users to transfer funds using PayPal via the latest Skype mobile app while users are “in the middle of a conversation.” Now you can pay up which catching up with friends.

“Questions like “Can I reimburse you for those movie tickets?” or “What do I owe you for Mom’s gift?” no longer require switching from Skype to your browser or banking app to start a payment process,” according to Skype’s blog. “Starting today, we’re rolling out the ability to send money with PayPal on Skype. Using your mobile phone while you’re chatting with friends or family, you can simply swipe right, tap Send Money, and complete the money transfer process.”

First time Send Money users will be asked to confirm location to see if the fintech feature is available in the users’ location,  then a link between each user’s PayPal account and Skype profile must be made. PayPal handles the money transfers and usually within moments, money will be transferred.

To send money, users must use the latest version of the Skype mobile app; the friend or family member who’s receiving the funds may use any version of Skype. If users or  Skypers who are anticipating payback don’t already have a PayPal account, they will be be prompted to create one the first time Send Money is used.

To utilize the Send Money feature, both the user and the funds’ recipient must reside in one of the 22 countries in which Send Money is currently supported, and where currency exchange is “no problem.”

At this writing, Skypers in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, and Euro-Currency countries (Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Estonia, Spain, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Portugal, San Marino, Slovakia, Slovenia) can send money in US Dollars, Canadian Dollars, British Pounds and Euros. More currencies and countries will soon be added. Multiple funding combos are available, i.e., funds from the U.S. to  Europe may be sent in Euros. Available on iPhone and  Android.
