Jimmy Fallon & “Tonight Show” Donates $1 Million to JJ Watt’s YouCaring Campaign For Hurricane Harvey Relief (Video)

On Tuesday night’s episode of the Tonight Show,  host Jimmy Fallon announced the talk show’s crew will be donating $1 million to JJ Watt’s Hurricane Harvey Relief campaign on crowdfunding platform YouCaring. Fallon stated to his audience:

“Last week, we saw the devastating effects of Hurricane Harvey on the state of Texas. But in the fact of this tragedy, we saw good. We saw communities banding together, neighbors helping neighbors, strangers helping strangers. So many heroes – people like Mattress Mack, who opened his stores and showrooms for those who needed shelter, a group of people who formed a human chain to save a man from a flooded SUV, and JJ Watts from the Houston Texans, who has raised over $18 million to provide food, water, and supplies to the victims. And I’m proud to say that our show, The Tonight Show, is donating $1 million to JJ’s fund. Thank you JJ.”

As previously reported, the initiative was launched following the devastating storm’s hit the state of Texas, causing flooding in and around the city of Houston. The Texans football player kicked off the campaign with a personal contribution of $100,000. He stated:

“The recovery efforts after Hurricane Harvey are going to be massive, and many people will need our help to get back on their feet. It’s extremely difficult to have to watch the events unfold on TV and not be able to get back to Houston to help – but hopefully this fundraiser will help show our love and support to those who need it the most right now. Any donation that you can spare, no matter how large or small, no matter what city or state you live in, is greatly appreciated. We will come out of this stronger than ever.”

The crowdfunding campaign has successfully raised more than $27.3 million in less than two weeks from nearly 190,000 donors. See Fallon’s full speech and performance by the Houston choir below.
