Following the devastation that Hurricane Irma in Florida and also the Carribean, DonorsChoose announced it launched a recovery fund dedicated to helping teachers rebuild their classrooms that were damaged by the storm. While sharing details about the recovery fund, Charles Best, founder of DonorsChoose, stated:
“Hurricanes Harvey and Irma have caused damage across some of our country’s largest school districts, which means hundreds of thousands of students and teachers will be grappling with loss at school as well as at home. Our donors and partners are ready to support the educators who are rebuilding classrooms and addressing vital student needs so that kids can continue to learn and feel supported.”
DonorsChoose is also collecting donations for teachers impacted by Hurricane Harvey and has already begun shipping materials to teachers along the Gulf Coast impacted by the storm. The platform’s community has previously also raised over $3 million to help teachers recover after disasters like Superstorm Sandy, tornadoes in Moore, Okla., and Joplin, Mo., and last year’s flooding in Louisiana.
