Music Sensation Ricky Martin Launches Hurricane Maria Relief Initiative on YouCaring

Over the weekend, music sensation and Puerto Rican native Ricky Martin has launched a Hurrican Maria Relief campaign on crowdfunding platform YouCaring to help those affected by the devastating storm. While sharing details about the initiative, Martin stated:

Puerto Rico is going through one of the toughest times in its history, and the island desperately needs us. Hurricane Maria left devastating damage and affected hundreds of thousands – that’s why I decided to create this fundraiser to help provide basic needs and rebuild all that was lost. My donation of $100,000 is already in, and I hope I can count on your support.”

Maly Ly, YouCaring’s CMO, went on to add:

“If there’s anything we learned from recent natural disasters like hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria, it’s that government support is just not enough and will likely never be. People still need to rely on family, friends, and their broader communities for material and emotional support, and online crowdfunding provides a way for these communities to rally for causes in an organic way.”

Hurricane Maria’s impact on Puerto Rico comes just one week after Hurricane Irma hit Florida and less than a month after Hurricane Harvey caused devastation in Houston, Texas. Tim Duncan, former NBA star, is currently raising funds on the crowdfunding platform for the Hurricane Irma relief efforts. JJ Watt’s YouCaring campaign raised more than $37.1 million for Hurricane Harvey victims.
