UK-based whisky distillery The Lakes Distillery successfully secured its initial £1 million funding target just days after making its Crowdcube debut. As previously reported, the distillery opened in 2014 and already claims to be England’s largest whisky distillery. It has received more than 100,000 visitors annually and has sold more than 160,000 bottles of premium gin, vodka, and blended whisky. The company’s description reads:
“Located in the Lake District National Park, we have so far produced the equivalent of over 600,000 bottles of whisky spirit with an estimated £30m of retail value. Whilst this spirit is maturing, we have crafted a portfolio of premium spirit brands, including The Lakes Gin, The Lakes Vodka, The ONE British Isles Blended Whisky, and a range of flavoured liqueurs all of which contributed to sales of over 175,000 bottles since 2015.”
The distillery also revealed that it was voted one of the top 5 best new distilleries in the world by Time Out USA. Just after the campaign achieved the 1 million, The Lakes Distillery team revealed:
“It’s been an incredible week for us, with our first crowdfunding exercise exceeding all expectations! We’ve been live for less than a week and have achieved 90% of target with over 1,200 of you believing in us and our vision. We’ve been overwhelmed with the support we’ve had in our first week, from existing Founder members through to new investors across the UK.”
Funds from the initiative will be used to continue the distillery’s expansion. The campaign is currently set to close at the beginning of December.
