CrowdPac Campaign to Fund Susan Collins’ Future 2020 Opponent Surpasses $3.6 Million Following Kavanaugh Vote

Following her decision, which some would consider a completely disappointing vote, to support newly appointed U.S. Supreme Court Judge Brett Kavanaugh, a crowdfunding campaign on CrowdPac that is seeking funds for  Susan Collins’ opponent for the 2020 Senate elections has surpassed more than $3.6 million thanks to nearly 124,000 supporters.

The campaign, which is called the Fund Susan Collins’ Future Opponent, revealed that over the past few months Maine People’s Alliance and Mainers for Accountable Leadership partnered with dying father Ady Barkan of Be a Hero to beg Senator Collins to vote “no” on Kavanaugh. The campaign’s organizers noted that Collins betrayed the public trust when she voted to support Kavanaugh’s confirmation.

“The people of Maine have been clear with you, Senator Collins: the confirmation of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court Justice is a threat to all Mainers. Kavanaugh is committed to ending healthcare for people with pre-existing conditions. He is committed to overturning Roe v. Wade. His confirmation poses a danger for millions of families in Maine and across America. Senator, your deciding vote was a rubber-stamp for Trump’s anti-healthcare, anti-woman, anti-environment and anti-labor agenda.”

Funds from the crowdfunding campaign will go towards funding Collins’ opponent, who is yet to be determined. Susan Rice,  a former national security adviser to President Barack Obama, recently announced that she will decide after this upcoming November elections if she’ll run against Collins. According to The Washington Post, Rice also stated that Collins has “betrayed women across this country.” Rice shared her interest to run after answering “Me” to a question on Twitter about who wants to run for Senate in Maine in 2020.
