Ripple Donates $200,000 to Tipping Point Emergency Response Fund and Silicon Valley Community Foundation’s COVID-19 Regional Response Fund

San Francisco-based Fintech Ripple has announced that it will be donating $200,000 to two different non-profit entities.

The donations have been made to help combat and prevent the further spread of the deadly and highly contagious coronavirus (COVID-19). There are now over 532,000 reported coronavirus cases worldwide (at the time of writing). There have reportedly been over 24,000 deaths and more than 124,000 people have recovered after getting the virus.

As noted in a tweet from Ripple’s official Twitter account, the Fintech firm will donate $100,000 to the Tipping Point Emergency’s Response Fund and another $100,000 to the Silicon Valley Community Foundation’s COVID Regional Response Fund.

Tipping Point is a San Francisco-headquartered non-profit entity that aims to alleviate poverty by leveraging its network of partners. The organization is planning to raise $1 million in order to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Silicon Valley Community Foundation aims to prevent the further spread of the Coronavirus in the Silicon Valley area. Government agencies in California and across the US have taken measures to ensure that people are practicing social distancing and taking other precautions during these challenging times.

Unfortunately, scams that have been impersonating various digital asset and blockchain foundations have also emerged.

A recent scam, which promoted a fraudulent digital currency airdrop, involved a YouTube account that impersonated Brad Garglinghouse, the CEO at Ripple Labs.

Garlinghouse warned his followers via Twitter by noting:

“Enough is enough — in a time of global crisis, when people are especially vulnerable — social platforms need to hold scammers (crypto and otherwise) accountable for stealing money from innocent victims with fake giveaways.”

He added:

“My semi-annual PSA: @Ripple and I have not, nor will we ever, conduct a giveaway like the scams that continuously pop up impersonating me on  @YouTube, @Instagram, @Twitter, etc. Action needs to be taken – more to come soon.”
