Ecosystem for Plant-based Businesses Kale United Returns to FundedByMe Seeking €2.15 Million

Kale United AB is returning to the European crowdfunding platform FundedByMe a 4th time to raise capital online.

Launching to the public on November 23rd, 2020, Kale says it has already attracted over €1 million from private investors prior to the public offering.

Investors Dismatrix and Veg Capital have participated in this round. Dismatrix Group is a multinational private equity, private credit, and venture capital firm that focuses on innovative-yet-sustainable trends in technology, wellness, and plant-based food. Veg Capital invests in technology platforms, innovations, and distribution channels which help to build a scalable, affordable and tasty plant-based food system.

The new funding will support Kale United as it continues to build out its portfolio of plant-based companies and support the successful distribution of brands in Scandinavia and beyond.

In March of 2020, Kale United raised over $438,000 on FundedByMe from 128 individual investors for 18.77% of the company. At that time, Kale said the value of their investments has increased 68%, mainly due to the success of Astrid och Aporna. With around 30 different plant-based companies, the long-term goal is to pursue an initial public offering.

The company says it has signed significant distribution deals with Mighty Pea, Heura, Bärta, Hooray Foods, Rubies in the Rubble, and more.

Kale United Founder Måns Ullerstam said he was very pleased to be announcing the next round of funding and expansion of his company and to be welcoming Miray Zaki and Michiel van Deursen to the Board of Directors.

“It’s hugely encouraging to see our latest investment attracting more than €1 million before we open to the public; a testament to the potential Kale United has to further expand its leading portfolio of plant-based companies. Kale United has already attracted over 500 investors from 30 companies, taking plant-based game-changers to the Scandinavian market and beyond with investments in more than 30 brands and more than 10 distribution deals, and counting. The capital raised in this funding round will be used to acquire new brands that are supporting global change and presenting fresh ideas that can positively impact the world. We will also be further expanding our global distribution network that is helping these brands to scale.”

Zaki was selected as one of the 100 Most Influential Women in Finance by Dow Jones Financial News, and is an investment professional, having managed investments as large as US$500 million. van Deursen is a former tech entrepreneur and now invests solely in plant-based businesses.

Dismatrix co-founder Sebastiano Cossia Castiglioni commented on the company saying Scandinavia is one of the fastest-growing environmentally and vegan-friendly markets globally, with a strong focus on ethical investment.

“We believe in Kale United’s great vision developing an incumbent market leader and the expertise and network of Måns and his team to take the rest of our portfolio to the Scandiavian market,” said Castiglioni. “The rapidly growing plant-based industry is an established global trend, providing consumers with healthier, affordable and sustainable choices. Making it possible for everyone to invest in plant-based game changers, and increasing the global distribution of plant-based products is quite simply better for us, and better for the planet.”
