Mastercard announced on Tuesday it will extend the Google Pay service to cardholders across Austria, Bulgaria, Estonia, Greece, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Netherlands, Portugal, and Romania together with its issuing partners. Mastercard reported that with Google Pay, users with eligible Android devices will be able to make “secure, fast, and convenient purchases” in stores and online. The service will also give them the option to use their phones to make contactless payments.
“Mastercard will provide this service in cooperation with various issuers and fintechs including but not limited to Banca Transilvania, Bunq, CEC Bank, Curve, LHV Pank, Monese, N26, Paynetics, Revolut, Swedbank, Unicredit Bank Romania, and Viva Wallet. This new launch is an example of Mastercard’s continued commitment to bring innovation that simplifies people’s everyday daily lives.”
Whiles sharing details about the Google Pay extension, Milan Gauder, Executive Vice President of Product and Innovation, Europe at Mastercard stated:

Mastercard then added to be able to use Google Pay in these new markets, Android users can simply select the ‘Add to Google Pay’ button within the participating mobile banking apps in order to add their Mastercard to Google Pay. After adding their Mastercard, they will be able to access all the benefits that come with Google Pay via their banking app.
