Pushing Picasso: StartEngine Lists Art by Famous European Painter

StartEngine has branched out from simply listing securities in early-stage ventures to things like collectibles such as wine or artwork. StartEngine has started to offer investments in non-traditional assets that may provide a hedge against heightened volatility in other sectors.

Recently, StartEngine listed an investment opportunity in a drawing by Pablo Picasso.

The Femme Assise, 1922,  is a pen and ink on paper, 11.3 x 8.8 inches. by Picasso that has an estimated valuation of $250,000.

Recently launched, individual investors can gain fractional ownership in the vehicle that holds the drawing for as little as $10. As it stands today, 170 investors have committed over $43,000 for this artwork.

StartEngine states that the work comes from the Collection of Marina Picasso, the artist’s granddaughter.

“The artwork was unlawfully stolen out of the artist’s studio and was returned to the Estate of the Artist by the French Government. This work is unique and has been confirmed by the artist’s son, Claude Picasso, the current expert for the artist.”

If you participate in this offering you are betting that the drawing will appreciate in value in the coming years.
