The Organismo degli Agenti e Mediatori finanziari (OAM) only began accepting registrations for digital currency and digital wallet providers beginning on May 18th but in the ensuing days, 14 firms have registered including Binance, Bitpanda and more.
The OAM is the exclusive authority in Italy for the management of the Lists of financial agents and credit brokers which includes payment services.
Digital asset platforms already providing services in Italy will have 60 days from that date to communicate their operations in Italy and continue to exercise their activity without having to wait for the OAM ruling on the enrolment in the Register. New platforms interested in operating in Italy will need to contact the OAM and comply with the regulatory requirements.
Firms may expect to have their registration application approved or denied within 15 days.
